I just purchased a Metron watch last week (for skiing and road cycling) and I have noticed quite a variation in the altimeter reading. I live about 50 m above sea level, near the Atlantic Ocean. I have tried setting the reference altitude (at sea level) or the reference sea level barometer reading (according to the local weather report), and then later in the day I notice that my altitude reading will vary as much as 150 m, as the barometric pressure changes with the weather (while still residing at the same altitude). When I reset the reference sea level barometric reading, the altitude goes back to ~ 50m at home. Is this behaviour normal ? If so, how can this watch work to record altitude changes (e.g. skiing, cycling) when the weather is constantly changing throughout the activity ? If I am skiing and recording a logbook, should you reset the reference altitude throughout the day when you are at the summit. If so, will this interupt the logbook functioning. I suspect
GPS will be the ultimate solution in the future, rather than barometric pressure.
