The air pressure sensor in you watch operates in two modes - barometric pressure and altitude. When you are stationary - such as sitting in you back yard, the watch should be set to the barometer mode. If your watch is set to the altimeter mode and you are not moving around, the elevation will change due to changes in barometric pressure.

If you are stationary, if the watch is set to barometer, and if the altimeter is changing, then there is something wrong with your watch.

It's all in the owner's manual.
