I have been swimming with my X-Lander in fresh and salt water without any problem at all. Even when they say these watches are waterproof I do not recomend you to dive with them... why taking that risk...
I have "drowned" 2 watches diving at 18 meters only, when they actually were 50mts and 100mts proof... (CASIO)... then I realized that you should only dive with watches designed and made for diving purposes...
Besides, think that for example the Altimeter would not give you your actual depth, as it would assume you are actually not-diving it would translate the absolute pressure readings as air-altitude, so you would read amazingly deep depths when at very shallow waters.
Temperature could work, and Barometer might be also working... Compass readings would also work just fine.

I recomend you not to dive with your Suunto X-Lander, as it is not made for diving.
Buy your Suunto Dive Computer... that IS made for diving, and you will not regret of having one. Besides, RGBM Deco Algorythm is as Bruce Wienke said: "Decompression is more an art form than a science..." ...believe me, trust Suunto's RGBM! Outstanding Machines!
