Question t1 or t3?

I've used a Polar A5 for almost three years now and now the HR-readings are going all funny and peculiar; a nice excuse to get to know other brands or types. The A5 is pretty basic, I don't use all functions (esp. the 2 km. walktest seems a bit nonsensical to me). Are the 'extra' functions of the t3 useful/usable? Is the watch-face plastic or glass?
