Getting a
GPS fix is not setting related as long as you or the watch itself didn't set the GPSfix to manual!
If there are no solid or liquid/human objects obstructing its view the watch must at least see a few of the theoratical 12 satellites in visible/line of site orbit. You might try laying it on higher ground like on the roof of your car with the display pointed towards the sky. But if that doesn't result in a sat lock after max 12 minutes it looks like you have a faulty product.
Suunto service is excellent though...

It will help you to familiarize yourself completely with the
X9(i) and learn about all its possibilities...
