Unfortunately not all makes of battery exactly meet the size spec of the standard in all dimensions and the tiny movement this allows can cause the effects you describe. By getting the
Suunto battery kit (which is incredibly good value anyway), you know that you are getting a quality battery and a fresh cover and gasket to hold it precisely in place.
True, although it also has to do with the fact that batteries change shape slightly when used, expanding a little as they heat up. This also changes the shape of the battery cover/gasket, so when you insert a new battery it will be slightly smaller than the old one so will no longer be held in place properly.
Plus this is a known fix for any
Vector series watches that are resetting themselves.
