| I think... that these are bearing locks when you have a less than stellar satellite reception. This produces some error which translates into random points. The watch calculates the distances between these points and adds these to the total distance travelled.
So solution. Go to Manual mode and take your position when you have time to slow down and take a memory point. These will then reflect your true position and the correct distance that you have travelled. Slowing down will make sure that you take the time to get a better view of the sky and therefore increase your accuracy, as well as being in the same place for a bit longer, giving your wrist top more time to lock on to satellites, also improving your accuracy.
As a general rule, I very rarely use my watch in 1 sec mode. uses too much battery, and doesn't really improve accuracy of my track..
