I too just got one for x-mas.
I can read the face with a total viewing range of plus/minus 45 degrees or so, from face on. Within around 30 degrees either way, it's as good as face on; at the edges, the difference in colour between the digits and background is less pronounced, but readable.
This is under daylight conditions, with no glare.
