I've had problems with my Core also, but recently bought an X10 and that's quite a watch!

I wouldn't give up on Suunto just yet, one bad model out of several very good ones isn't worth dropping the brand entirely.

I also have faith that Suunto will eventually get all the bugs out of the Core.
