Finesse is on a distinguished road
Yes, the X10mi has the same red backlight as the X9mi. However its only active when you use the backlight, otherwise its just a black watch, with a black LCD. You can get the Suunto X10 basic black, which is the same colour otherwise, but has a positive LCD instead. You can proibly find pictures of the two on the net.

Also I have to add, dont let the military in the name mislead you. The Suunto X10 and X9 are far from being "All terrain" rough and tough watches. As a clocksmith, I dont think anything is really. However the X10 is even less so! Its an ultra compact delicate GPS device, and requires a deal of care from the user. Which every man in the military should posess! However I find that when most people think of the word military, they automaticaly associate the device with some kinda Rambo like indestructable quality. You can still take it into the woods with you, and it wont break (it is water fully water resistant!) but you cant take it with you, and then forget your wearing a 400€ watch on your wrist! In short, they havn't really fixed any of the build quality issues on the X10 over the X9 in my oppinion. However the GPS works much much better then the previous X9... I can get a GPS signal while sitting in a moving bus. Sure it takes about 5-7 mins to get that GPS lock, but its still a major improvement over the X9.

As for new GPS watches, havn't heard about anything new coming from Suunto. Think the only thing Suunto is working on right now is the Elementum "Luxury" watch line, which is basicaly suposed to be a full metal, really nice looking (fairly unique, as far as "traditional" watches go) basic Suunto ABC watch.
