In response to the user's comments, an "expert" answered what follows: "Hi Michael, the first thing I should let you know is that the Suunto watches are not water proof, they are water resistent to 100 ft..."
As far as I'm concerned, both expressions are equal although I tend to agree with one of this forum's 2002 users (Brad) who stated: "water "resistant" means that. You can take it under water, but do NOT press any buttons. That's the real difference between water resistant and water proof. On a dive watch that is water proof, you can press buttons for function."
That seems to be the appropriate answer as opposed to that of the expert, is there something else I should know about water proof vs. water resistant? Shouldn't any Suunto 30m water resistant watch be good for AT LEAST 30m, hence justifying the user's concerns?

You've been missed informed. The difference between waterproof and water resistance is that waterproof can go under water and the watch is sealed tight now allowing any water to penetrate, while water resistant means that you can splash water on it or shower with it on without water seeping in. If you need to verify, go to any high end timepiece stores and ask them. They will tell you the exact thing I just told you. Anyways, I hope this helps. |
