I read on the suuntosports.com discussion forums of some talk about the X6 and or the X6HR having a known "power supply" problem that caused random resets (date, alarms, etc) sometimes after several months of use. Has anyone here experienced such problems? If so, what is SUUNTO doing about it? Thanks!

Have Suunto check it out. Go to www.suuntousa.com, email them at warranty@suuntousa.com or call them at 800-543-9124. They are the US Distributor, they can either warranty it if it is under 1 year old or refurbish it for anywhere from $35 to $50, which is really a great deal for all they do, it will come back like new. Hope this helps

The reset problem is well known and Suunto should replace your watch. Not that it will do a lot of good, if they replace it with a watch that still has the problem, as they did with mine. I am so not happy and even though Suunto says the problem is solved, how the **** can I trust this thing on my wrist?

| I know that in 2004 Suunto made some minor hardware changes to the X6s that had been having the reset problem. From a retailer's perspective, I can say that this seems to have fixed the problem, as we don't get any calls on this matter on the watches we've sold since then, whereas last year this issue was something we heard about with some frequency.

I'm sure you did hear about it a lot as a retailer... I'll give Suunto credit where credit is due however, as they extended the warranty period for the X-series watches. My problem is not whether or not the problem is actually fixed, but whether I can have the level of trust I need in such a device as I really do use it for mountaineering and orienteering. The compass was also affected on my watch. Thank god for cheap analog compasses, and I wish I could say the same for analog altimeters... So I've boxed up my second X6 and am ready to send to Suunto here in Canada. I've asked them to send me an observer instead because no X6 will ever be placed on my wrist again...

Update from my Feb 2003 entry.... Since my retailer replaced my X6 back in 2003, I had trouble free usage till two weeks ago. My X6 has began its infamous self-resetting- my fear came true. My X6 is now on its way to Suunto Finland office for its repair since I purchase the watch in Jan 2003 in Hong Kong. For a watch that cost over US$300 and from a brand that is associated with quality and reliability, its field reliability certainly does not meet my expectation. Furthermore, the repair may take approx two months. Prior to this second problem, I had the intention to upgrade to their new X9 having found the features in the X6 useful, and to continue to recommend Suunto watches to my fellow adventure racers. However with such poor reliability record, I do not have confidence that Suunto watches would not fail at future critical situations/events. I do intend to continue to pursuit adventure racing events with the help of safe and reliable equipments, and it's a pity that I cannot rely on a Suunto. I hope other Suunto owners will have much better experience. ----------------- PS: As a tip of X6 owners...If safety is one of your key concern, do bring backup devices to support your X6- Just in case.
