Field charging the X9Mi I am planning a 10-12 day backwoods canoe trip into Canada and need some kind of field charging device. Using the GPS each day canoeing and portaging, I am estimating 5-6 days worth of battery life. There are several other trips I have planned that require a field charging device (backpacking trips, etc) and the device needs to be lightweight. I have contacted Suunto and they have no such field charging device. The only charging means is via a PC or the wall wart (110v). I have made up the schematics for such a device that can use several different input voltages ranging from 9v to 27v with the current being reduced to +5v @.5A using a IC chip. Does anyone have the voltages and pinouts for the cable and X9Mi watch? Thanks in advance, Eric.

Hi, have you seen: http://www.suuntowatches.com/Suunto-...er-Charger.pro this looks like a straight connection to 12v. You could easily build a battery powered 12v box with a female cig. adapter, or better yet, you could use something like this: http://www.batteries.com/productprof...p?appid=366304

Field recharging X9i Battery I have seen some cool chargers for Ipods, using solar panels and being lightweight and portable. This way you do not need to carry a battery in your backpack if you're really out there in the backcounty... Anyone knows the specifications to charge that battery? Could a charger using small sollar panels do the job? Best regards Michael Prendergast Chile

Powering a Suunto X9Mi charger with Solar It looks like the USB cable that comes with X9Mi will plug into the female adapter with solar charger. http://www.solio.com/v2/shop/shop2_c...es.php?catid=8 The only issue is if it will have enough juice to charge the watch battery. How many amps does the charger need to work? BTW there are adapters to plug USB into a 12V car power port too and they work great. Last edited by cfredrickson; 12-13-2006 at 10:38 AM.

Field Charging Okay.. I did it.. I made a fully functioning field charger for my Suunto X9mi Things you should know. The standard USB Pin arrangement does not work for Suunto watches. I called to see about getting some help and someone at Suunto USA Technical help sent me to SUUNTO X9i Compendium So I will not take any undue credit. But I followed his instructions and ended up with a fairly good results I am using a Brunton Solar Roll which provides 18V (on a sunny day) of power that is brought down to 5.5V with a standard Car USB adapter. So looking at the initial results. I am pretty pleased with the results..
