X91 GPS Issues

Hi guys

Ive bough my X9i 2 weeks ago and have been using it for all that time. Ive noticed that the GPS when used in Activity mode with a 1 second update has been working erraticaly.

Basically its been adding huge disances onto my distance traveled for seemingly no apparent reason. Downloaded onto google earth these extra distances take the form of huge spikes on the map that have my distance off by upto half a mile or more and increases my walking speed to some silly value such as 170 kmph.

Ive let the suunto power down to reset it but still the behaviour continues, ive just completed a walk of just under 3 miles to test but the watch shows that ive done over 6 miles?!?. It can find 6 sattelights on startup and when walking will have 1-3. Is anyone else getting this behaviour because right now the gps system on the X9i isnt useable even as a toy.

James

I think... that these are bearing locks when you have a less than stellar satellite reception. This produces some error which translates into random points. The watch calculates the distances between these points and adds these to the total distance travelled.

So solution. Go to Manual mode and take your position when you have time to slow down and take a memory point. These will then reflect your true position and the correct distance that you have travelled. Slowing down will make sure that you take the time to get a better view of the sky and therefore increase your accuracy, as well as being in the same place for a bit longer, giving your wrist top more time to lock on to satellites, also improving your accuracy.

As a general rule, I very rarely use my watch in 1 sec mode. uses too much battery, and doesn't really improve accuracy of my track..
