I bought my first
X9i in the summer of '06, a tan one. It used to have the common problem of an unstable and funny battery indicator. It also used to shutdown when left in backlight "night" mode.
Last week I purchased a second one, this time the carbon black. My son got the older one. The most important thing is the better readability of the black one. The reverse screen was hard to read in dim lighting. The black
X9i really looks cooler. I guess
Suunto put a newer firmware into this one because the battery indicator now works fine, and the night mode of the backlight is ok. Every minute digit increase is delayed by a 0.3-0.5 second with seconds going up fron 59 to 00. And at the same time the battery level indicator is squeezed from both the top end and the lower end by two steps as the minute digits change. I have yet to see other differences in the operation of altimeter and the
GPS.
The serial number of the first one was 60xxxxxx, and that of the new one is 808018xx.
