All we have now is rumors ... which is all the site you linked to has, as well; they're just trying to drum up pre-release sales. The watch will not be released any time REALLY soon, so don't hold your breath.

However, if you want to get the latest official word on the Suunto X9, sign up for our Suunto Newsletter at http://www.suuntowatches.com/faq.htm#n.

PRESS RELEASE
2004

THE SUUNTO X9 IS A VERSATILE NAVIGATION INSTRUMENT FOR OUTDOOR ENTHUSIASTS

Demanding outdoor enthusiasts no longer need to carry an armload of electronic devices with them. The Suunto X9 wristop computer offers all the features of larger GPS units, but in a lightweight package Ð and right at your fingertips. The Suunto X9 assists the user in navigation, its altimeter measures differences in altitude, and the barometer tracks changes in the weather. Combining all this data into a unique entity on your wrist not only enhances safety, but also provides assistance in analyzing data, bringing a whole new dimension to your outdoor activities.

The Suunto X9 is a personal navigation instrument for a wide range of activities. Navigational assistance is a performance enhancing factor for trekkers, hikers, mountaineers or even fishermen and hunters. In addition to full GPS functions, the Suunto X9 has an electronic compass, barometer, thermometer, and altimeter. Knowledge of position and guidance to route waypoints are crucial to ensuring safety when on the move. Accurate information on altitude and weather changes improves the quality of your outdoor experience even more.

A preplanned route can be saved in the Suunto X9, allowing you to plan the entire route at home using a map. While out in the field, the Suunto X9 will advise you which way to go, and tell you the distance traveled and your speed. It also shows the remaining distance and the estimated time of arrival based on your forward speed. The speed and distance display is also perfect for running or biking even without any planned route. Moreover, the adjustable satellite fix rate provides extended battery life and enables GPS navigation on multi-day hikes.

The Suunto X9 records your tracks, helping you to find the way back along the route or to the starting point. The 'Find home' function always shows the route and distance back to the marked 'home' position. Good fishing spots, prime rock faces, beautiful campsites and other places of special interest can easily be stored in the Suunto X9's memory with a name of your choice to be used during your next outing. Another useful feature is the weather alarm that alerts you to any major changes in barometric pressure, giving you time to prepare for an incoming storm.

The Suunto X9's logic is based on a menu interface format similar to mobile phones. Basic functions can easily be found in the menu. Thanks to complete sports watch features and a streamlined design the Suunto X9 can be used even as normal watch.

One of the Suunto X9's most interesting features is the interactivity with PC software. The unit comes with PC software for analyzing the data collected in the field. You can plot your routes and see speed and altitude profiles. In addition to this, you can plan routes in advance and upload them to the Suunto X9's memory. A very useful feature is the ability to import map files into the software. Thus, you can scan in your own paper maps and use them when planning and visualising your activities on your PC.

You can also find new angles for your sports by posting the data stored on your Suunto X9 to www.suuntosports.com. From there you can also download coordinates of important and interesting locations such as refuges, campsites etc. Routes enjoyed by others might be worth trying, and sharing your own experiences with others helps you to get more out of your outdoor activities!
