| An update: I was able to fix the problem. First I downloaded the latest SAM s/w, which behaves much better when connectivity fails. It doesn't crash. Then I increased the data rate of the serial port to get it to support the connection. It all works fine now. I still think the serial port plug is too difficult to use, and I am concerned it will dmaage the pins on the laptop.
