Compass question ( X-lander )

Hello everybody! ( Sorry about my english )

I have just bought a new Suunto watch. X-lander! I have two questions that i could`t see in the manual. When i push the + button in the compass mode field 3 goes over to a second counter. Hvat is this for? and how do I stop it? Second question, when I push the - button the hole compass lock itself. What is this function for?`And how do i get it off. I could not read anything of this in the manual.
