Note that my watch was still running fine - keeping good time, capturing HR data fine. The only clue that the battery was low is that the backlight was even dimmer than normal - frankly I could barely see it even in the dark. With a new battery, the backlight is stronger, and moving data is reliable again

Dear all,

recently I purchased the new Suunto t6d heartrate monitor because I really trained too much and too often to get highly negative energy balances to get rid of body fat very quickly, the result was rather good (20kg/2 months). But now once body fat percentage is great my aim is to improve my rel. Vo2max level which will not happen when training to much without sufficient recovery time in between.

Since it is very important not to restart training when body recovery processes from training are not yet fully completed (otherwise decrease of performance, cf. supercompensation training) I purchased a Suunto t6d with live TE prediction based on EPOC prediction, the height of indirect EPOC prediction showing me how long I have to rest after training to pay off my oxygen debt. This is what is explained in the Suunto t6 training book "how not to rely on luck when optimizing your training effect" on the graphic on page 21 (german version of training book). But according to this graphic when I achieve a training effect of 4.0 I have to stay at rest for 1 to 4 days, so when should it be 1 day or 4 days, this is close to a subjective assessment of recovery and not very precise information in my opinion!

Firstbeat technologies the inventor of the Suunto indirect EPOC prediction method offers a software named HEART RATE BASED RECOVERY ANALYSIS FOR ATHLETIC TRAINING, showing the actual recovery status of the sportsman interpreting the heart rate interval variability (RRI) over night.

So if this software is compatible (no official written information on this from firstbeat customer service since weeks nor a quote!) with the new model t6d (and not as expensive as the watch which already measures RR-Intervals!) this would be a perfect recovery status information showing when to restart training and when not based on objective information.

Since my t6 already measures and saves the RRI data in the training logbook (this is the speciality of T6 series) I wonder really why there is no useful information on this in Suunto's Movescount.com where you can see graphically the time difference between heart beats in 2sec or 10sec intervals (depending on your settings) but however the heart rate variability or at least the average RRI is not indicated on the graphic as compared to the other 6 body parameters.

I would highly appreciate more statistical information on RRI in mouvescount and ask therefore if further tools and assessments are likely to be implemented in mouvescount or rather not due to commercial contracts between you Sunnto guys and the firstbeat guys.

fanks in advance for your honorable feedback and greats from Germany,
Patrick

I thought the GPS pod would work better than the garmin wrist tops - simply because it was bigger and wasn't required to move as much as something on my wrist. It does not.

Here are the issues:
1. Takes a long time to connect - and loses connection frequently. I've tried wearing it in the back pocket of my cycling jersey, on my arm, even on top of my helmet. It just doesn't work.
2. It doesn't map! Unlike every other GPS that track coordinates and allows you to see your route (so you can connect the dots where you loose sat signal). The big 'ol pod doesn't do that. It just does a poor job of speed and distance. Lame.
3. Batteries don't last long at all - and what's more is there is no way to gauge how much life is left in the batteries. So you end up replacing them every 2-3 activities - which for a triathlete is 2-3 times a week! or you just use it and it dies on you mid activity so you lose record of your times.
4. I chose the t6 over garmin because the garmin is so big - and the t6 is waterproof. Guess what? The GPS doesn't work - even on your head while swimming - nor does the heart rate monitor so I'm not sure what the point of being waterproof is.

The t6 is a very, very expensive heart rate monitor. I'm really bummed that I spend over $500 for it.

On a positive note, I was very disappointed to learn that I couldn't download to my mac. Movescount.com solves that. cool site.

My T3, heart monitor and foot pod were working fine. I needed to change the battery in my T3, but after doing that and resynching the foot pod, the T3 no longer shows any distance and speed info. I have tried putting a new battery in the foot pod and synched again (holding the foot pod upside as instructed). The T3 seems to acknowledge synching with the foot pod while going through the 'pair a pod' menu item. When then cycling back through the modes into the training mode, the T3 finds the foot pod. However, no distance/speed data is displayed on the T3 when running. The heart monitor is correctly working with the T3 at this point, having been resynched after the T3 battery was changed. Any thoughts?
