But regarding the altimeter, where do you get your references from-maps,local information?
Oh by the way,I live in Norway.:P
And in contrary to many other users in here i´m very satisfied with my core-a absolute pleasure to wear!

Hello everyone,

I am considering buying a Core but..

I have been following forums, the reviews and their dates, writing down serial numbers of bad/good batches, contacting friends who have bought it, researching... Seems to me too many ppl got burned, so I think I'd be a fool if it happened to me after having read so many bad bad reviews.

Can someone knowledgeable PLEASE instruct me on the quality of the most recent Cores, the issues, the software, anything useful to make my decision about buying or not buying?

P.S. I have turned my attention to an X-Lander Mil. Ed. recently, having owned a Vector previously (and was EXTREMELY pleased with its performances). What about this match-up -> Core vs. X-Lander Military?

Help. Thanks!

Yet I bought the watch anyway...which in a way is quite funny. I have an
X9i that is a complete failure-- the battery failed just after 1.5 years of use, went through the he** in returning; it was returned and only a week into the new battery it goes dead....so the x9i sits collecting dust with me not wanting to sink another $70 into that dark hole.
So why another Suunto? Well I also have an Advizor which has performed flawlessly for almost 6 years---so many trips, so many hikes and it has never balked. So I try again, praying, hoping that my new Core doesn't suddenly die!

SERIOUS question for core owners-
Did anyone notice what year is displayed when you first boot up the watch out of the box?
Mine said 2007 ????? Is there any significance to this?
Thanks!

Hello!

Have found lot's of core-problems in this forum - but I think mine is different.

My core light green is roundabout half a year old (SN: 916861xxx).
Alti and baro worked well - in all modes (auto/bari/alto).
Since one week, the values are absurd.

1: When using the alit-mode, altitude is jumping from 3 to 9 to 27 to 36 to 16 to 11 to 2 to 15 to -6 etc. meters within seconds - this also happens in other heigts like 400 or 1300 meters.

2: In bari-mode, pressure-graph is up and downs-

3: In auto-mode the core stays in alti-mode (because of the perpetual changing of altitude-valus).

4: When calibrating heigh to e.g. 20 meters, there should be a pressure of 1016 hPa (says my Vantage pro2 weather-station - air pressure reduced to sea level ). My core tells me 950 hPa.

So there seems to be a serious problem with the basic sensor-calibration for alti/bari or the sensor is defect.

Any ideas or comments?

Thanks
Manfred

hello all, my girlfriend gave me a core light green for xmas(i know xmas is not even close, i am so spoiled :D), i love the watch so far, But i need your help, i would like to make sure i understand the baro/alt fonction, i am not asking to understand everything 100%, just want to make sure i know how it work for the use i will make of it. and for that i will use a feature that i like a lot in the instruction manual, the "possible real life situation". the situation is that i am climbing a mountain and i know the altitude of the summit and i want to track my progress as i climb.

here it is:

i arrive at pinkham notch, NH, USA, at 6pm, i will sleep in my westfalia and start hiking tomorrow at 6am, right now my watch is set at baro, i check the weather report at pinkham notch to make sure the actual atmospheric pressure is the same on my watch, and it is.

6am, i am ready to start hiking (i check baro again, its matching), i switch the baro for altimeter, since i know the altitude of pinkham notch, i have both the pressure and altitude as a reference value, which one should i use?

i reach the top, check the altitude, it is not the same, i correct the reference value? let say i dont have access to atmospheric pressure on top. i start getting down, but i get really tired when i am at the lean-to and decide i will sleep there for the night, i switch my watch to baro? because if i dont, i might not have correct reading in the morning when i am ready to leave?

does this make sense?
am i completely off?
