Suunto Core and Lumi

Suunto recently announced - and will start shipping – two new lines on September 1st, 2007:

Suunto Core is a new watch line geared toward men; they sport the altimeter, barometer and compass capabilities as well as some unique features such as a storm alarm, etc. Suunto Lumi is the first line of watches from Suunto specifically designed for women. Sharing the same capabilities of the Core line, the Lumi watches sport clean design and amazing looks.

Speaking of design, both the Core and Lumi watches feature looks that – while still unmistakably Suunto – are a fairly dramatic departure for the brand. Both lines are truly appropriate in any setting, making them extremely versatile to the user.

Both lines will also have dedicated accessories. Nine different Suunto Core ‘accessory straps’ will be available, and the Lumi will offer ‘accessory packs,’ which include two watch band designs and either a pendant attachment or molded carabiner jackets to allow for strapless use. The Core straps and Lumi accessory packs will allow users to further custom-tailor their Suuntos to their needs and tastes.

Meanwhile, we're also offering Suunto's limited-edition Black Collection for this year, which includes special all-black, ion-plated versions of the Suunto Observer, Observer ST (we are one of VERY few retailers to offer the ST) and X6M - all of which offer the Suunto ABCs (altimeter, barometer, compass) as well as other functions.

So, there's some new stuff for ya with the capabilities you're looking for.

Is the new Lumi really girly?
I actually prefer the face/design to most of the suunto range. I have fairly small wrists and have had an observer for 7 years which looks fine on me. I'm looking to change soon - would the Lumi look out of place on a guy?
Do you have any of the dimensions?
Cheers
Steve.

Hi Steve -

To be totally honest, I absolutely love the body of the Lumi. The majority of the bands, however, are decidedly feminine. But, though I haven't seen it in person yet, the black band that comes with the Florette / Plain Lumi Accessory Pack appears to be a simple, black band (albeit with a green underside) void of the patterns and designs found on the rest of the Lumi bands. If this winds up being the case, I may have to spring for a Lumi myself! I don not have dimensions, sorry. I had however seen the prototypes, and the size is definitely smaller than a 'traditional' Suunto. Great-looking watch.

Suunto Core black

Brent,

I've seen some (mainly UK) sites advertising a Core Military and Core Black. These do not appear on the Suunto site or yours. Any specs on these (are they different than the light green one I'm conisdering right now?)?

Also, what is the projected battery life for this new model?

You're right - that's a good-lookin' watch!

I have no info for a 'Military' Core, so I have a note into Suunto about it... It's possible it may be a UK-only or other limited market offering. To me, it appears to be the body of a Black-Orange Core with the Light Black strap (keeping the Orange-Black "pins," which are black).

Will let you guys know what I hear!

BTW tfzon, the Core actually uses the Observer / 6-Series battery. Honestly, I can't definitively say what this will mean for battery life, but I would expect it to be at least on par with other Suunto ABC watches. Of course, heavy use of the compass or altimeter will drain power more quickly.

Just an update - according to Suunto, there is not currently nor are there immediate plans for a 'military' Core. Reviewing the pics posted on the web, my rep is in agreement that the Core in question does indeed appear to be a Black-Orange body with a Light Black strap. So, if nothing else, there's always a DIY option to 'build your own!'

Red face Suunto reject there is a "military core sunto"

From suunto web page i copy paste the following:

Core Rumor Update! Though the Cores have yet to ship, we've already been seeing talk of a version that doesn't exist! For those following the Core's launch, be aware that there is no 'Military' version, nor does Suunto have immediate plans for one. However, you can in fact create your own 'Military' Core:

What you'll need:

One Suunto Black-Orange Core wristop
One Light Black Suunto Core Accessory Strap
How to do it:

Remove the orange strap from the Core watch
Replace the silver 'pins' in the Light Black Accessory Strap with the black ones from the orange strap
Install the black strap (with black pins) on the Core body
Sit back and savor the stealth

probability that it will ship on 1st of September

Hi,

How confident are you that Suunto Core will ship on 1st of September?
I do not like watches, but when I saw Core and its features, I could not resist to click BUY-NOW.
Getting all excited cause September is just few days away...

Ok, I have to chime in here. It has been awhile since I have logged on, but the Core has got me a little interested. I see everything "Core" related is on backorder? How can I order one or when do you thing additional stock will be available?
Thanks*

mcel - these are backordered because they are a brand new product launch. Tying into alenas' question, the first ship date from Suunto is September 1st (tomorrow!). There unfortunately is always the chance that they may be delayed a couple of days, but I'm hoping like everyone else that they ship right on time. Not sure if the holiday weekend will have any impact.

Neg display core

Do you think we'll ever see a Neg. display face as it is on the round face for the Metal watch? I would love a light black model with a watch face negative as it is on the Black yellow watch... does that make scense?
