Vector Watch Resetting Constantly

Anyone with a Vector watch have any issues with it resetting itself?

I had to change the battery in mid-October and it's been doing it several times since. Today alone it happened 6 times. Always to 18:00 hours and the date to 01.01.00. I've sent an email to Suunto and will call them on Monday, but just want to see if this happened to anyone else's Vector or other model.

Thanks,
Jerold

Cool T6 Resting itself to.

For the last two days now my T6 has been reseting itself. I go for my run and alls fine, leave my watch on the side, and within a couple of minutes its reset itself to 27th March 2004 !!! It doesn't delete the logs, although I had to try several times to import them in, but its very annoying indeed!

I posted my question on another SUUNTO forum site and someone replied back. Here's their reply:

If the battery isn't sitting totally securely, it will give intermittent contact, hence the reset.
Unfortunately not all makes of battery exactly meet the size spec of the standard in all dimensions and the tiny movement this allows can cause the effects you describe. By getting the Suunto battery kit (which is incredibly good value anyway), you know that you are getting a quality battery and a fresh cover and gasket to hold it precisely in place.

True, although it also has to do with the fact that batteries change shape slightly when used, expanding a little as they heat up. This also changes the shape of the battery cover/gasket, so when you insert a new battery it will be slightly smaller than the old one so will no longer be held in place properly.

Plus this is a known fix for any Vector series watches that are resetting themselves.

Vector Resetting Itself

JeroldLopez,

My Suunto Vector I just purchased does the same exact thing. I replaced the battery with an aftermarket CR 2430 from Radio Shack. Now the Vector constantly resets itself to 1800 hours and the date 0101. I think the battery is the culprit because it seems to want to pop out of the little recess in the watch before I've put the cover on. I've ordered a Suunto battery replacement kit and it's on the way to me. I'll change out the Radio Shack battery with the one Suunto provides and I'll post another message in a week or so to let you know if that was the problem. Right now my Vector is useless for keeping time because it can't keep time constantly...like it's supposed to.

William

Mine did it 3x one day and that was when I started looking for forum discussions for a solution. That was about 2-3 weeks ago. I emailed Suunto and they told me to buy the kit which i did since this is a common problem and the recommended solution. The stranged thing is that I never installed the kits and my watch is working "normally". After the last "reset", I just reset the time to the correct setting and never even took off the back cover. I just set it aside waiting for the kit. I wore the watch daily just to see if it would reset itself and it hasn't....yet. I'm not gonna put in the battery kit unless it goes screwy again. I also got the battery from radio shack and it cost more than the Suunto battery kit.

Please post your results.

shane sweet:

you might think about buying the battery kit for $7 before going out and spending a couple hundred on a new watch. Don't know why, but after the 3x in one day of resets, and buying 2 kits, it hasn't reset once and I never even installed the kit. Kinda doing a test to see if it resets again. I's been almost a month now and all is fine. Suunto cust. service said it had something to do with normal heat buildup in the watch causing the battery, I guess, to swell and then when a new battery goes in, it is too small for the battery well and loses power for a split second causing the resets. since mine is doing ok for now, maybe the battery I bought at radio shack has broken in to fit the battery well. The radio shack battery costs more than the Suunto battery kit.

...just trying to rationalize the reasoning since after my explicit explanation, they only replied that I need to get a battery kit. good thing they are cheap.

Suunto Resetting

Sorry it took me so long to re-post. Well I did eventually receive the battery kit from Suunto and it did resolve my problems with the constant resetting. Since I've put the new Suunto provided battery in my Vector it hasn't reset once and it's now been over two months. Problem solved I guess...if you're tired of resets, try a Suunto provided battery.
