Best way to keep Barometer Altimeter accurate Hi Suunto lovers or haters I have a Suunto core and i have only had it for a very short while. Could anybody tell me the best way to keep it accurate. Is it best just to use an altitude reference if know or to use a pressure reference from a website. If so what website is proving the best. My friend thinks that the altitude reference is the best way. I am still getting used to how it all works any additional help would be very beneficial.

I prefer to recalibrate using a known altitude reference. I typically use Google Earth for this. The key to keeping the alto/baro accurate is frequent calibration... Some folks complain about this, but they are both reliant on barometric pressure which constantly changes to some degree or another. A topo map comes in handy for recalibration in the field.

I have calibrated my Core using the 0 level of the Pacific at Georgia Strait in West Vancouver. In the same day I went to Whistler and back. When I arrived at home at the 2nd floor of my condo in Port Coquitlam, the altitude I could read was… -35m (minus!). Last edited by alpin; 03-19-2008 at 06:38 PM.

Hi. currently I am at 709ft elevation with a 1002hPa.....just checked the national weather service however, i keep setting my elevation to 709ft and the darn thing keeps jumping back up to 715ft... In order to get it actually set to 709ft, I have to set it for 705ft and then it stays at 709ft.... what in the world is going on here? I must admit, I am a beginner in this stuff. I recently got this watch as a gift and want to learn more about it. I read the whole manual and understand alost everything, but this is starting to bewilder me... thanks for your help
