Which model do I want?

New to the forum and thinking about getting a Suunto after having heard so much about them. First... the X9i model with the GPS... am I correct in remembering that you have to recharge it? What's the battery life like on those things?

Other than that model my wants are Large face, compass, altimieter, barometer, thermometer, steel body, steel or titanium band, bright backlight. What models am I looking at.

My X9 has had to be recharged a total of about 6 times in 10 months that I have used it. .. Now this is on Night setting which uses more backlight and one alarm a day. I have used the GPS some and the Compass Some. Both of these operations tend to use more battery power....

If you want a steel case then the observer is the best choice, the Xlander and those similar to it tend to use Aluminum cases with a carbon fiber back. Also there is a Core in Aluminum. But the steel case will affect the Compass..

As for metallic bands. Core in Al and Observer are your Choices.

The X9 is carbon fiber only.
