I'm fuzzy on this. I am thinking of getting a t3 and want it to work with swimming but under the info on the t3 someone said it did not work in the water and the admin said it was not designed to work in the water??? ............................"Comments from The Staff: The only Suunto watches intended for use under water are the Dive watches. All other Suunto watches are water resistant up to 100 feet, but not intended to be used in the water. We appreciate feedback from all of our customers, regardless of which cross sporting they may be involved in. All reviews posted on our website are posted from consumers - none of the reviews are "fake." Christina Call Center Manager Certified CPS Tech...................................." kaeote curious

T3 & the Heartrate Belt while swiming To be honest Suunto seem to be struggling to get there information together, it says on their site, in brochures and even in their manual the heart rate belt and the t3 will work whilst swimming. What I want to know is who wrote this ****, hahahah! I have tested the belt and the T3 whilst swiming and have found it only works when i reset my timer at the end of the lap, and i have to have my chest out of the water. So by the time my t3 finds the Heart Rate belt, my heart rate has died down and also I have no data to review later on. I would love to see how my heart copes with lap 30 in comparision to lap 40 and so on. That was the idea behind getting the T3. I like the style of the watch and some of the features, but the swiming issue is a majour concern for me. I will do some more research and try to find out if i am missing something. In the previous comments above, someone said it may have to do with the amount of chlorine in the pool. Most people train in chlorinated pools surely they thought of this in development, otherwise I wander what type of water they expected us to be swiming in, spring water or something?

The NEW Memory Belt (2007) is the recommendation. It's the one that comes with it's own docking station and stores the data on the belt itself. There are three different types of HR belts that can be used with different HR monitors. The analog HR belt, which works with analog transmission technique, will show your HR also while in the water. The conductivity of the signal is not as good in the water as on dry land, but you are still able to get HR readings on your watch. This type of belt is used with the following HR monitors: Advizor, Metron, X3HR, X6HR, X6HRM, X6HRT and t1. The ANT HR belt uses radiofrequencies to transmit the HR signal to the HR monitor. Even though both the Suunto HR monitors using this transmission technique and the ANT transmitter belt are water-resistant, the radio signal does not carry in water, which makes the communication between HR monitor and the ANT transmitter belt impossible. This type of HR belt is used with the following HR monitors: Suunto t3, t4 and t6. The third type of HR belt is the Memorybelt (and also the discontinued SmartBelt). This HR belt also uses the ANT transmission technique but contains an internal memory chip and is able to record the HR in the belt itself without any HR monitor on you wrist. That's why the Memorybelt can be used also in water to record the HR, and the recorded HR data can then later on be transfered to the Training Manager PC software. In addition to being able to record the HR, the Memorybelt can also be used as a HR transmitter while not in water. The Memorybelt can be paired with all ANT compatible HR monitors (Suunto t3,t4,t6) and used instead of the regular ANT HR belt.

The memory belt would seem to be the answer, except that it would be nice to see the readout at the end of each lap. Perhaps I can setup a laptop at the end of the lane. heh ![]() |

t3 hr with a regular t3 and Hr belt I have had no problems with waterproof and at the end of a lap if I want my heartrate I just stand up and get the belt out of the water for a second, then it reads just fine. The memory belt looks like a good tool if $ isn't an issue. Tim

The t3 is rated at "30m/100ft" which is really pushing it for swimming (since those depths don't really mean the depth at which you use it). Most sites recommend 100m for swimming, or 50m if you're lucky. Not sure I want to risk my shiny new t3, but good to know that you're having no problems, at least.
