There is no replacement for an adjustable declination mechanical
compass that can be used on a map. To the best of my knowledge, it's not possible to use any electronic
compass on a map to triangulate and plot lines to figure out where you are at.
Pointing twelve o'clock on your Wristop shows the degrees you are facing on the top row. The middle row shows your half cardinal point direction. That is, NW, SE, etc.
Bearing tracking will lock in a degree bearing of a distant object so that you can follow the course on your Wristop. This is valuable so that you can stay on course if you lose visible sight of the distant object by going up and down mountain ridges for example. This feature is offered on all
Suunto Wristops with the
compass function and use is best described in the owners manual.
