Question "def" reading

At times when I am setting the local Bar. pressure or altitude, the word "def" appears as I am scrolling up or down to match the correct numerical value.

For example if the current pressure is 1013hpa but my watch reads 1021hpa I go into USE and when the value begins flashing I begin scrolling down to reach the desired 101 3 reading.

However while scrolling down somewhere between the value that is on the watch and the value that I want to set it at, the word "def" pops up where the value was. After a second of keeping the button depressed it continues to scroll until I stop at the desired pressure reading.

My question is why does "def" pop up and what does it mean?
I can't find anything in the manual.

Thanks,
krak

You may want to contact either www.aqualung.com or www.suunto.com because we really only handle the Outdoor series and the D3.
Sorry about that, but you may get someone else to answer it, we'll see who's watching.

Smile Observer

Brad,
Thanks for your reply but I guess I forgot to mention that this is on the Observer.

What do you think? Have you or anyone else come across "def" while adjusting Bar. or Alt?

thanks,
krak

"Def" is the factory default which can be used if you do not know a benchmark elevation or barometric pressure off of the weatherchannel.com
