Barometer mode

I'm the proud owner of a Suunto Observer but there is still
something I don't understand. In the barometer mode the
user sets the pressure at the sea level. After that it's
possible to see the current absolute pressure from the bottom
field display. My question is now why does it always show
as 4 hPa less than the pressure at the sea level?

The Finnish Meteorological Institute gives the pressure
at sea level (Helsinki) and close to the place where I live.
In fact I'm now quite close to the coast (Helsinki) and
the both values (sea level and absolute) of the pressure
should be quite the same but they differe by 4 hPa.

The only reason I can think of, is because of the tides of the sea. Even though you are at sea level, the tides can make it so that you are above or below it...... It could also be that your house is not exactly at sea level.

Hope that helps,

Brad

Thanks Brad. I doubt your explanation applies here. If there could even be one mail address at the Suunto web pages I could
ask it directly from Suunto.

It looks as if the Suunto people are not too active. At least not
on the web.

Regards,

-leif
