Backlight Problems

I just bought a brand new Observer. I am having problems turning on the backlight. The manual requires the mode button to be pressed for about 2 seconds to activate the light. Well, at times, I am pressing it for up to 10-15 seconds for several times before the light comes on.

The battery seems to be okay. Is there a malfunction with my watch?

It sounds like it to me as I have never experienced any problems with the Observer.

Did you ever find out what was wrong with your backlight? I just bought a new Observer last week and am having the same problem. I called Suunto and they thought it was the battery so they are sending me a new one... still waiting for the battery to see if that solves it.
