X3 HR Belt issues

I am on my 3rd HR belt for my X3... they seem to die after 12 or 18mths and no amount of battery changing, belt tightening seems to do the trick. The first indications are the Heart rate reading is a division of true heart rate either 1/2 or 1/4 of what the heart rate sould be...
anyhow splashed out for a comfort belt this time rather than the old hard plastic one... the problem is it doesn't seem to be working at all... I am assuming that the X3 does work with the new comfort belt... any ideas?
