X6 - Compass calibration not level

I just bought a X6-HRM. Very nice.

In going through the manual, it describes that the "cross" should be in the middle of the levelling symbol, which indicates that the wristop is properly leveled.

In my case, the cross is always outside and to the right of the inner levelling symbol. This is when the wristop is properly held level. I can tilt the wristop a severe 45 degrees to force the cross inside the levelling symbol. However, this causes improper calibration of the compass; subsequent use of the compass yields faulty readings.

Contrary to what the manual advises, is it common and acceptable that the cross is outside the levelling symbol?

According to our Suunto Tech., you should send this watch in to be tested for accuracy. The cross is always supposed to be centered in the leveling bubble when the wristop is held levelly. Without a diagnostic test, we cannot confirm that the compass is being calibrated accurately.

Today, the watch has gotten worse. The wristop won't complete its calibration process. When attempting to calibrate, the dots start appearing to form the progression circle but it refuses to complete more than half a circle. This occurs on repeated attempts.

In normal mode, the compass indicates a range of NW to N to NE, regardless of the actual direction the wristop is pointed in. Simply, the wristop seems to be locked into sensing North everywhere. This is exactly the same fault as my previous Suunto Observer.

I wanted to know if the wristop has become magnetized. As a crude test, I moved a mechanical compass around the perimeter of the wristop; it did not indicate that the wristop has become magnetized.

Is there some simple way that a user can "demagnetize" or re-set the wristop when the compass becomes jammed as my two watches have?
