Mac & Suunto

FYI, I rec'd my production CD of SAM software today. I was able to load & use the software flawlessly. I use Mac OS 9.2.2 as my operating system.

Here's what Macintosh users will need to run the software:

G3 or G4 Macintosh computer with ample memory and hard drive space. Virtual PC Software (Version 5.0.2 is what I used) This software emulates a Windows PC on Macintosh. I use Windows '98 as my PC software. $200 with Windows 2000

Keyspan USB to PDA or High Speed Serial adapter - $40 to $60

http://www.keyspan.com/products/

The above two items can easily be purchased at CompUSA. Most loyal Macintosh users probably already have Virtual PC and some might have the serial adapter. I was able to get a very stable serial connection when downloading
logs. This is more than I can say for downloading city street maps to my Garmin V for my car. I gave up and I'm using a friend's PC to download maps to my GPS.

I hope this helps!

(FYI - No Tech Support for this is available, you are on your own! but best of luck)

What is the current status of using a Mac with Suunto interface. The only posting I find in the archives refers to OS 9.x. With OS 10.2 now out, is anyone using a Mac with interfaced watches? Thanks.

There are no immediate plans to make a MAC interface with Suunto wristops. The "6 Series" Wrotops will work with Connextix Virtual PC. There are very few peripheral devices that will utilize the MAC operationg system.

Thanks for the rapid response. I use both PCs and Mac computers, and my S6 is travelling to me from you via Fed Ex at this time. The new OS 10.2 for Mac emulates PC's without use of additional terminal emulation software. I suspect that if Suunto supplied either a USB or firewire connector, both systems would work if the software were available. It is a puzzle to me why Suunto continues to use a serial adaptor. By the way, I use every peripheral device I use today on both systems including digital cameras, PDA, mpeg music, etc. If you would loan me an adaptor, I will test the newest Mac OS and report to the forum, and will return your adaptor. Gary

I called the Suunto Helpdesk and asked if and when there will be a Training Manager Software for Mac.

Answer: "In the future there will be a Version for Mac, but currently we can't say, when."

I do hope, that Suunto will bring the Mac Version soon to the market, because Polar has nothing, Garmin not the best solution, and all Third-Party-Software do not have the full functionality of Suunto's Training Manager.

If Suunto does not disclose their roadmap for their software development, they must accept, that some potential customers will not buy a Suunto watch, but wait, if Garmin is delivering better quality and if Polar is also announcing a Mac version - what will be very likely, because worldwide share of mac computers is steadily rising.

Hope the best for a good Christmas Beta Version of Training Manager for Mac!!!
