| observer vs X6 I`m planning to buy an suunto watch as i`m a passionate hiker, so for me altimeter and weather functions are the most important... (stopwatch functions are not that important for me...) I just can not decide which model to buy, the observer or the X6... i first thought of buying the observer but know i see that the X6 has more features, i`m not really interested in using a computer to access the logbooks since i`m more interested in the hike itself than in my statistics afterwards... so apart from the computer connection, what are the differences between the X6 and the observer and what do you suggest... | I personally believe the Observer is the best looking. However, the X6 has some features that the Observer does not offer: 1.) Easy to use menu driven functionality. It works a bit like a cell phone 2.) Clinometer - This provides function provides a slope angle for back country usage. 3.) Time alarms actually can be set to a specific date instead of just the time in the day. The X6 alarm also illuminates when it goes off. This is great for finding your Wristop on a nightstand or in a tent to turn the alarm off. 4.) The memory mode in the weather/barometer mode provides past temperatures in addition to past barometric pressure. The Observer provides only barometric pressure. 5.) The X6 provides a differential mode that calculates your vertical gain/loss since it was last set. The Observer is the only Suunto altimeter Wristop model that does not provide this function. Both Wristop models offer the logbook and logbook history to calculate your daily and seasonal total vertical ascent and descent. Don't discount the power of the X6 PC software. You can actually label each log for a specific activity such as alpine skiing, hiking, Mtn. Biking, etc. to seperate your vertical data into event specific categories. AltimeterGuy |
