Vertical Lines on the X6

This is a discussion on Vertical Lines on the X6 within the Suunto 6 Series forums; I've recently noticed that sometimes there are vertical lines of pixels that look like they're half lit. Examples: http://www.lams.ca/Pics/DSC00086.JPG http://www.lams.ca/Pics/DSC00087.JPG ...

Vertical Lines on the X6

I've recently noticed that sometimes there are vertical lines of pixels that look like they're half lit.

Examples:

I'm wondering if Suunto is aware of this, and whether there's any fix for it? (like adjusting the contrast or via a patch)

Thanks.

My palm IIIxe computer does same thing.

I have tried the X6 at the store today and haven't noticed those lines.

Same for me.

But only in the Time Mode. Compass, Weather, Hiking & Chrono are clean.

Here's the official word from the factory in Finland.

"The vertical lines appears in some units in the beginning when the battery is new. The nominal voltage of the batteries is 3,0 V but for a new battery the voltage is about 3,2 V (average). After some weeks of
use the voltage drops slightly below 3,0 V and the display contrast settles to the normal level. The contrast can be adjusted only in the factory. It has been set to be best possible over the total lifetime of
the battery (for average batteries). Because of individual variation of battery voltage, the lines are in some X6's stronger than in the others. This can be helped by using batteries that are not brand new.

The contrast of the LCD is also dependent on the operating temperature. Below freezing point the display is clearly darker and the contrast is higher than in a hot summer day."
