Class Action Suit?

Hello, It would seem that I am among the many who have been stupid enough to waste my money on a Suunto Core watch. I am wondering if Suunto are selling something which is "Not of merchantable quality" and using the promise of an excellent warranty service (which is a joke) to further convince possible purchasers that they are putting their money with a trustworthy company who stand behind their product.
I does not seem too much to ask that Suunto cut their losses, try and win back their old customers respect by scrapping the Core line of watches and refunding the people who bought them.
It will be close to 2 months by the time I receive my watch from their warranty department that is if they send it at all. They claim to be backordered, which would indicate that they must be selling like hotcakes in the stores.Or everyone who bought one has sent it in for repair, which seems a more likely reason.
If anyone knows how to pursue a class action lawsuit, I would be interested in helping as much as I can with the process.
These companies who after years of excellent reputation sacrifice quality for a few extra bucks need to be held accountable.

Dude Seriously???

Go over to some of the other Suunto Forums and Float your Idea. I hate to break it to you but you are WAYYYY in the minority. Plus you are going onto a website hosted by a Suunto dealer and you are talking smack! The Suunto warranty is among the best in the business.

<Sigh> I have been a Suunto wearer for almost eight years and you are talking about the lousy build quality? I currently have four Suuntos and I have just ordered my fifth. Sorry dude I just don't buy it. Go and get a Casio if you are not happy. Sell the Suunto off on ebay. it won't take long.

Thumbs down Sorry Dude...think again...

You obviously don't own a Core. They truely DO suck. My first lasted most of a year but its replacement, which took a month to get, was DOA. They said its replacement would ship overnight but now say maybe sometime next week. That response change within 3hrs...Inventory control should show no watches in the "bin". Warranty work in 1 week...hmmm. The forum does mention problems, acknowledged, with rev 1 of Core software. I have owned three other Suunto models X-Lander, X6hrm and Observer. Only the X-Lander is still working. Quality...you bet. So...are you an employee of Suuntowatches or what.

I will check the other site but I am not talking about a suit, all I am talking about is quality and you can find many such comments on THIS site. One that kind of sums is up is Suunto Core Quality Control Issues check it out. I still believe Suunto has a real quality issue with the Core and until I have a watch that lasts more than a year I won't be convinced otherwise.

Check the Serial

but those were all units that were sent out in the closing weeks of 2007. And Suunto DOES know about these issues. If have ever used their Customer Service desk to get a watch repaired, they do a really great job of getting them turned around.

Look at the Serial number. If it starts with an 8 you will probably be okay. If the Software Version is 1.03 or later you should also be okay.

If these are not the case for your watch, SEND IT IN!!! They can have it updated and returned in about a week.

I just got a Core starting with the 8 serial #....it doesn't work....keeps resetting. Clearly the watch has serious quality control issues. Myself and all the others do not want to be dealing with any service department for a $300+ watch no matter how good the service is....we just want the watch to work. My disposable $20 Timex Iron Man works 100% better...it works. It doesn't do much of anything but at least it does what they say it will...it's reliable!

Well its been awhile since I made a comment here but I knew I would be back with a quality control issue. The watch I got about the 1st of Nov is now dropping a column of pixels. It actually did it fairly soon after I got it but it cleared up. It now has done it again. I repeat...This is the biggest peice of sh.. I have ever owned. I don't believe anyone has had very good luck with the Core. It is really sad.

My first one dropped a row across the middle of the baro graph.

My current one has just got a problem where the boxes surrounding <TIME> <ALTI&BARO> <COMPASS> graphics are incomplete, and flicker on and off depending on the seconds indicator...

Core quality...

I got nothing anymore... this is clearly spiraling out of control. Even I can no longer stand behind the build quality..

So here is my suggestion. I am seeing less issues with the Aluminum and steel cores. Don't know why, maybe that there are simply less of them and therefore report less problems.

Second, another person has stated that he traded in his core for a X-lander after sending in at least three for repair. That might be the best suggestion that I can give you. Best bet is to contact Suunto USA and and discuss your options with them..

I appreciate your loyalty because I too really enjoyed Suuntos variety of watches but I appreciate equally your seeing that cost cutting has hit the quality of Suunto. Too bad they don't see it yet...I hope they don't go under before they realize the issue.

I understand your frustration. I'm just an owner of a Core, a X9iM, one X-Lander, one M3, one Regatta, Mariner, one Yachtsman, one Advizor, six Vectors, a T3 and a T6cand I bought aone Lumi for my girl. I love all of my Suunto watches and I like my Core too. The first one was send back after 4 month and one week later I reived a new one which works fine. Its a great looking watch and once it becomes as reliable as all the other which have never failed my, my 100% trust in SUUNTO will be restored.
I agree that a company which is so proud of their products must do better than they did recently with the Core (and the lame update of the X9i aka X10...but that's another story). Lets wait how this new batch is working (mine seems to be an updated version) and what the new watch will be alike (26th of May we'll know I guess).
Cheers...

But the cost sutting is nothing new for companies, and Suunto is not the first to do it.. And Suunto IS very concerned about this... as we speak, the "new" Cores are beginning to roll off the line with a supposed Hardware fix for the QC issues that they have been facing. Customer Service has notified that there is a new bezel being sent out for the X10 that addresses the peeling issues...

and now they are rolling out an all new product line,... so I think that they are paying attention..
