On paper, this watch looks great. I bought one to replace an
Advizor that after 7 years adventuring was finally beginning to show signs of fatigue. I also own a Mosquito for diving. Both the
Advizor and the Mosquito are superb products, but the
Core is something
Suunto should not have put their name on. My problems with the
Core are: too many functions for too few buttons mean that you will be scrolling through menus far too often (e.g. manually switching between altimeter and barometer). I don't much see the point of depth mode, surely anyone who cares about that will already own a diving watch,
POD or Polar compatibility would have been much more useful. There is a noticeable lag when using the interface, whatever processor is in this is woefully underpowered. Reliability: mine is actually back at
Suunto now for repairs (just 6 weeks after I bought it), even when I get it back, in wild country, I will never be able to truly rely on it to not randomly reset itself to factory defaults. And finally the
strap isn't that tasteful burnt orange it appears in the photo, but a really garish shade; it looks cheap like a child's toy watch.
Good points, the storm alarm works as advertised, the sunrise/sunset indicators are as good as they can be without
GPS. And err that's about it.
In retrospect I should have just bought another
Advizor. Question is do I want to give
Suunto any more of my money.
