| it seeems a bit contradictary as 'Tyler' says he had no warranty and you say you did if bought on ebay... why would suunto agree in some circumstances? if i did buy one, i'd be using it and wouldnt sell it on. but the warranty should be worldwide, it shouldn't matter where you buy it from... |
| ||||
| I guess I should have said 'officially' - eBay (and any new watches sold on ebay, or JomaShop) are not sold by 'authorized retailers' and therefore Suunto does not have to honor a warranty on these sales. |

| suunto x10military warranty and compass whats a jomashop? is it a shop selling items on ebay? if not do you think i'd be covered if i bought one from a shop on ebay and not a private seller? thanks |

| Authorized Retailers It doesn't really matter.. The official Suunto position is that any watch bought from anyone other than an Authorized Retailer does not have a warranty. Bear in Mind that Tyler works for the Authorized Retailer that runs this particular website. And Full disclosure being what it is, I used to work for another shop that was an Authorized Retailer.. Okay... having said that, unless you state on your warranty where you purchased your watch, Suunto has no way to know where you bought it. Ok also keep in mind that it is always preferable to buy from an Authorized retailer. Your local shop is the place where you can find a salesperson who already knows what a Suunto can do, and can help you find the features that you want. AND you don't pump the local experts for info just to buy from someone else.. (it's just bad form dude). |

| Love it, but... Hi, just got me a X10 mil and I love how it looks and its feature set. No problems with peeling/cracking (yet), but it worries me how easily it dents and scratches. I wore it for one day (!) to work (office!) and the upper ring/bezel (what's it called?!?) already has scratches. From normal use (sitting at a desk)! I was being extra special carefull (aren't we all with new toys ). So I wonder how it will look after hiking. I think it's not really outdoor/military standard quality. Now I've read the bezels can be bought seperately. But I can't seem to find it. Not in the EU shop anyway. Can someone post a link? Thanks in advance! |

Suunto - SUUNTO LIMITED WARRANTY FOR SUUNTO WRISTOP COMPUTERS AND ACCESSORIES |

| Did you read the warranty page? It doesn't say that you have to buy the watch from an authorized dealer or even have a receipt. To answer your question more clearly; Suunto warranties their watches for two years, period. It can be a used watch bought from anywhere. Last edited by cbloyer81; 10-02-2009 at 05:02 PM. |

| Authorized retaillers It does.. but not in easy to understand, plain language... "Suunto Oy distributes its products, services and technical support only through its worldwide network of authorized Suunto distributors and retailers. " That means- buy local from people who have a retail agreement with Suunto.. "The Warranty Period starts at the date of retail purchase by the original end-user purchaser" and "To the extent your national laws permit, the Warranty Period will not be extended or renewed or otherwise affected due to subsequent resale." That means that only a watch bought from an Authorized dealer and properly regisetered with a receipt from that dealer is eligible for the full two years os Suunto service- if you have a watch that falls outside of that criteria- you may not be entitled to the full 2 year warranty. "This Limited Warranty is only valid and enforceable in the country where you have purchased the Product provided that Suunto has intended the Product for sale in that country." This means that a watch made for sale in the Far East may not be eligible for service from Suunto USA. Likewise a Suunto EU product may not be eligible for service. "Suunto warrants to you that during the Warranty Period Suunto or a Suunto Authorized Service Center will, remedy defects in materials or workmanship free of charge, at its sole discretion..." This means that Suunto and only Suunto can decide what is a legitimate service claim and how they choose to prosecute (process) such a claim. If they should decide to one day require copies of written receipt sent with all service requests, they are legitimate to do so.. <sigh> I get this comment a lot. Yes you can buy from some schlub off of the internet, but there is no guarantee as to what you will be getting.. (And there are Suunto knockoffs out there.) I realize that price does drive some decisions, but talking to a knowledgeable sales employee will keep you from making some serious mistakes, like thinking that a T6 with a gps pod will work as well as an X10 for navigating in the backcountry. Local shops are in the outdoor industry for the purpose of providing this type of service- and the crappiest thing that you can do is go to a shop, take up an hour of the sales person's time just to go buy on-line. I can not tell you how many time I have heard of X-9's and X-10's have been returned because there is not the traditional Graphic interface that most GPS devices have. (Never has happened at my shop, because I explain the whole watch to the customer- they know what they are buying.) This is the main reason to buy from a local shop. Suunto is going to protect its brand image, and sometimes that means that they will service a watch that may not have been purchased under their normal user agreement, but they don't have to, and you might get lucky if they do, but the promise that you seem to think is there, just really isn't. |

| "The Warranty Period starts at the date of retail purchase by the original end-user purchaser" and "To the extent your national laws permit, the Warranty Period will not be extended or renewed or otherwise affected due to subsequent resale." That says that the watch has a two year warranty, regardless of how many times it passes hands. Furthermore, if the 5th buyer has it repaired near the end of the warranty period, they get an added three months. What you said: That means that only a watch bought from an Authorized dealer and properly registered with a receipt from that dealer is eligible for the full two years os Suunto service- if you have a watch that falls outside of that criteria- you may not be entitled to the full 2 year warranty. The receipt part and registered parts are YOUR words. That isn't complicated legal jargon. It is clear English. You probably didn't read the whole post but my watch was bought on ebay and sold to me from Craig's list and SUUNTO still honored the warranty. The proof is in the pudding. |

| The operative word was MAY not be entitled to the full 2 year warranty. Suunto is going to protect their brand image, and so will probbably give you service, BUT THEY DO NOT HAVE TO!!!! Look it appears that no matter what I say, you do not want to see that my point of view might be correct. So I tell you what, contact Suunto USA. Their number is 800 543-9875 and ask them what their stand is on buying a watch from an non-authorized Suunto Dealer. |

| no warranty Yes they DID repair your watch.. And I would have told you that they probably would.. Suunto is going to protect its brand image. So I decided to call Suunto and ask them, and guess what, The official position is that a watch bought off of ebay does not get a warranty. If you send it in "you might get lucky". So while we are on the subject, are you perchance an attorney? |

Concerning your phone call, if it's not in writing, it doesn't matter. Additionally, I'm pushing the issue so much because this thread is about the faceplate. Suunto will repair your faceplate. I want people to know that Suunto will replace their faceplate's and that Suunto is a good company that is standing behind its product. I think we've gotten off track. So, feel free to argue the issue some more. However, I will be removing myself from the discussion about warranty's. I would still be willing to engage on the topic of faceplate's though. |
