I used my new x10 in a trip to Milan for three days, used it to locate specific visit sites I spotted on google earth, consuming at least 2 hours of use. I used it 1/sec mode during trip back to Turkey in the plane continuously for about 4 hours. I still have only one dent missing after 1 week of regular use at home. On my X9i, I must have run out of batteries while using it Milan wandering around...

What about the capacity

Does someone know what is the battery capacity, in mAh?

The reason I ask is because I would like to buy an external battery to recharge the X10 when I do 10 days of trekking.
For example, an external battery 4,000 mAh at 3.7V, how long will it maintain my X10 alive if I use the polling interval of 1 minute and I run the activity 8 hours a day?

Thanks,
Tom

X10 battery charging

I am looking at purchasing an X10, but first I have promised myself to make a take anywhere charger for it. I believe I now have the bits and pieces for a combined solar and/or wind-up charger, but need to know what voltage and charge current the X10 requires. tomd mentions an external battery (4,000 mAh) at 3.7V. Is the X10 using a 3.7V battery?

Could someone please have a look at the charger for the X10 and let me know the output (??VDC and ??mA)

Many thanks if someone can assist.
L

The X10 requires a USB charger capable at outputing atleast +5V and 0.5A.

As for the capacity of the internal battery I am not sure, but I think the X9i had a 310mAh battery, since the capacity on the X10 was improved by 33% I don't know if that means it has a bigger cell since the new GPS system uses less energy. So it might actually have the very same battery. But I am unsure about that.

a 4000 mAh charger should be able to recharge an X10 multiple times before it is empty.

Thanks for the reply Jaokim Agren.

I now have my X10 and have made my wind-up charger MkI. The charger works but I'm not entirely happy with it, so MkII is on the way. I still have not gone anywhere near discharging the X10 battery as I haven't done any heavy GPS use, so charging through the USB while connected to the trek manager has been enough.

Cheers!

The computer/charger cable has an USB end. I just carry the cable around, so I can charge my X10 using any USB ports available.

Cheers!
I do long-distance hiking in the mountains where electric mains are non-existent, so I need something similar.
A plain 9V-battery converted down to 5V with an IC is a possible solution, but the winder seems like an even better idea.
Would you be able to tell where this wind-up charger can be purchased?

Cheers
Carsten
