bezel pop out consequences?

i enjoy using the x10 for my running activity but sadly there are some unexpected disappointments. (i was so close to getting a garmin 405- i still believe i made the right choice but i hope the guys in suunto are reading this!)

a tiny spec of the rubberized matt finish came off days after i bought the watch but i didn't mind it.

now the bezel on my x10 popped out for no apparent reason. the right side went up exposing the clip and underneath a thin metalic o-ring. the watch face itself apprears intact and no parts moving. towards the top where the tiny hole is located behind it apprears some adhesive coming off.

the entire bezel did not completely come off. i pressed the right side of the bezel to make it stick back in place. however, it didn't exactly settle snug fit as in the original state. some space or gap can be seen between the watch face and the bezel. if i apply more pressure on it, the opposite side of the bezel pops out. even if i press down on both sides sooner or later the right side would pop out again.

i haven't removed the bezel for fear my waranty gets void or i might ***** up and worsen the situation.

has anyone removed this before? what consequences could there be if the bezel falls off completely? will the watch display and electronics fall out? will water damage anything underneath the bezel?

sorry guys to throw you these questions, its a saturday here. the earliest i can contact the suunto distributor is monday. the long wait kills me.

any insights is appreciated. thanks.

Send it in for warranty

The Bezel is a cosmetic piece that protects the wire loop antennae. It gets a little tricky to place back onto the watch as there are two little dog ears that fit into the pockets on the band..

If you dont want to wait to send it back in, go Suunto TV and look under outdoor How to's and scroll down to find out how to change the bezel on your watch.. you may need to buy a little double sided foam tape or something like it.

Here is another link its for the X9 but the process is the same for the x10

Someone has suggested that the tape used is a version of this

Thumbs down Bezel Poped off and Mother Board died - waste of money

Well at least the watch worked for a few years.
I had an x9 which I loved and only wore during exercise, mostly on weekends, the watch was well cared for.
One day the charge started to drain within hours.
Shortly there after, the Bezel popped off while swimming.
I sent the watch in to Suunto for repair and was told that there is no way to repair it as this model is out of date. Instead offered me an x10 for $399.

I paid $769 retail for this watch in December 2005.
Something just doesnt seem right here.

Thanks Suunto.

Take it apart..

You can replace the battery, you just need to open the case and do a search on the battery found inside.

I really don't know what else to tell you, you might find a used X9 on ebay for cheap. But the x10 is a huge improvement...

thanks for the insight

dear all,

time depot, the authorized dealer in manila was very helpful and cooperative. they asked me to return the unit with the defective bezel and in 2 days they asked me to pick up a newer version of the X10 unit. the new one came with a bezel unlike its predecessor, it didn't have that rubber like matt finish. the bezel is a black slightly textured plastic. i suppose the texture eliminates the shine off the surface. it looks good. actually i'd prefer this over the original.

lets pray this one doesn't pop out again. he he he!

speaking of price, i got mine at the local dealer in manila for about usd 600. i admit its very steep. at least this incident is a testament, that the suunto dealer in manila does an excellent job of ensuring customer satisfaction. its very rare we receive swift service like that of the U.S. especially when it comes to expensive items.

Thumbs down X9 bezel falling off

I purchased a brand new X9 from ebay but the bezel fell off within two months of use. This X9 did not perform as expected especially acquiring GPS signal. When I contacted Suunto's service re this GPS problem, they advised to buy the X10 as there has been a significant improvement in GPS signal. When the watch's problem was compounded by the bezel falling off, I lost a total confidence in Suunto watches..period. I sent the watch in for repair but I'm not sure if I want to spend another penny to repair it...principle. Oh, by the way, I had another Suunto prior to X9 and the compass feature on that one failed also. I will not make a third mistake.
