| Track Exporter I have just received the X10 (I had the X9i but the battery wouldn't hold a charge so they sent me the X10). Anyway, I can't seem to get the exporter to recognize that I have Google Earth installed, hence I can't view my tracks on Google Earth. I've tried everything (re-loading Google Earth, restarting computer, re-loading track exporter, etc, etc.) What am I missing here Any suggestions? |

| Software resolution Have you tried removing the old trek manager and trek exporter. you may need to go in and eliminate the registry values (using regedit). Then update the trek manager to the new version (x10) and only then add the trek exporter. It has been a while since I have used the software (only because it is so horrible and because I use a mac). |

| I did remove the old ones but only by uninstalling. I have not heard of regedit. I'll give it a try and add the new version only. What do you use to download your tracks and stuff without the program? I am curious of other ways to view it? |

| I dont' Download tracks There are multiple uses for a GPS, not just the "Where have I been?" use that the Track exporter is so useful for. I tend to use a GPS with Land navigation for determining where I am going (imo much more useful than knowing where you have been). I take a topo map with me and/or Plot my trek using the Nat Geo state series. In fact I typically keep my GPS on manual mode so it is only active when I need to take a position measuring. Since I stay on trails and roads, I go only places that I intend to and I already have a map, knowing where I have been doesn't have much allure for me.. Kirby |

| On Windows 7 64bit: For the 'Track Exporter' application to determine if 'Google Earth' is installed, it looks for the file 'googleearth.exe'. To know where to look, it uses the following registry-value: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell NoRoam\MUICache] "C:\Progra~2\Google\Google Earth\client\googleearth.exe"="Google Earth" On my Windows 7 64bit installation (which is pretty new and standard) that particular value was missing, thus the 'Track Exporter' didn't know where to look for the 'googleearth.exe'-file. After entering the value manually, everythings works perfectly... Last edited by Remember2; 03-17-2010 at 01:13 AM. |

| Hi ItsMe Just tried it and it seems to works nicely. Could be worth adding and optional delimiter to this so that it could export to anything (not just tab). The other thing that would be good would to have the option of enclosing the text fields in quotes to help packages like Excel see the names as names and not numbers (like the track no). |

Hi, not wanting to trash my PC but eager to get this to work are you implying that if I copy and paste the text line above into the folder called MUICache it will work (I'm guessing it will need a reboot) - I'm still running XP pro - never really messed with regedit before so keen not to get it wrong! TIA. Adam |

I don't know to be honest, as I only had the problem on my Win7. I had no problems on my XP. However, you will do no harm to import the value above if it doesn't exits. I suggest you do some research on how to import values, before you try out. But, to give a short description on how to: The easiest way would be to make a text-file with the file extension [.reg] (instead of [.txt]) with the contents below: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell NoRoam\MUICache] "C:\Progra~2\Google\Google Earth\client\googleearth.exe"="Google Earth" ...and once the file is saved, just double click it, and Windows will automatically ask you if you want to import the key. Again, check if the key exists first (via regedit.exe). If it does, then do not not do anything, this is not the solution. If it doesn't import as described above...that might solve your problem, and will do no additional harm. |
