I'm wondering wether one of these (M9 or G9) could be usefull not only for sailing or golfing persons, but also for "regular" outdoor enthousiasts: Waypoints could be e.g. a restaurant, a public parc, a theatre, a parking place, train station and so on. Information would be distance and direction to a particular point from the current position. This could be possible if waypoints can be programmed and specifically named by the user. Does this work with the current models? Regis.

Now thats a great idea. Thats interesting point you make. Im not too sure how it would work. You should ask the folks at Suunto about this idea. You can reach them directly at 1-800-543-9124 Hope this helps

naming waypoints finally I got the technical help who told me that waypoints (M9)can be named specifically using the software. However, the names are not transmitted to the watch, so that only the relative numbers of the waypoints are finally displayed. The M9 is really optimized for sailing activities. But, concerning the application I asked for (e.g. a restaurant name together with the distance and direction to it on the display), he also told me to be a little bit more "patient", more precisely until november/december of this year, without telling me other details! Well, considering the great advances on the market (Timex/Oregon Scientific/Casio), we may expect something really outstanding, I guess!!! Regis.
