OK For SCUBA Diving?

Enjoy this watch, though I agree the alarm is a little quiet.

I recently started diving... I know this isn't a dive watch so I'm not going to bet my safety on it, but I was wondering if anyone knew if:

-Would the descent / ascent rate would work accurately under water?
-Will the compass function also work underwater?
-Will the watch corrode or leak if I wear it on a dive?

At the very least I could use it to monitor the time I spend underwater. I have the stainless version with the rubber strap...

Thanks for any info.,
dom

Hi,

The observer is No diving watch:

Ascent/Decent will not work - the observer is based on air atmosphers - under water is quite different (33 feet = 1 standard atmospher)- (same reason a dive watch won't give you altitude)

Compass - will not work (atleast with enough reliability to use it, and likely not at all)

Waterproof - yes - to the recommended depth. The watch will not rust or corrode

Timer - The Observer buttons are not designed to be used underwater - risk is low, but it is not what it was designed to do. Also - most dive timers start when you enter the water and stop when you leave. You run the risk of forgetting to start it, stopping it during the dive, or forgetting to turn it of afterwords - but otherwise it would work.

That was quick! -I appreciate the info.- looks like the Explorer will stay home when I go diving.

Thanks again for taking the time.
