Observer strap!

Have read a lot of reviews about the observer strap with elastomer and stainless steel/titanium, and the lack of quality. Have anybody got any further info about this? I am going to buy a titanium observer but don't know if I should buy a Observer LTt or a Tt.

/Swede

Hi Swede,

I have two of the Observers with 'stainless' straps and really like them. They add to the overall look of the watches. I have the white faces and with the case and strap all in stainless it all blends together very well. One of my Observers' came with the black polymer strap that I replaced with a stainless one. I know that the stainless part is really just pieces of stainless metal attached to a modified polymer strap but it is still worth it. Although I had the choice, I preferred the 'brighter' look of the stainless to the titanium watch and the weight difference is so marginal, you do not notice it. Besides, I like to feel the weight of a watch on my wrist. There was a bit of a problem with the stainless straps coming undone but it is easily fixed by slightly bending sideways, the two tiny lugs on the catch on the back of the strap that hold the two sliding plates in place. This allows the catch to close slightly more and grip the peg much more securely. Since I did this, neither of my straps have ever come undone accidently.

Good luck with your choice.....

Doug.........

Mickey Mouse Strap Blues...

I have fond memories of a plastic Mickey Mouse I had as a kid. It was the first watch I ever had. It would light up and chirp reassuringly in the dark. I loved it. Then the strap broke and I never wore it again.
When I forked over hundreds of dollars for my Observer, Mickey was on my mind. Not for his cheerful ability to vanquish the monsters in the dark but for his demise. I should have trusted my instincts.
When the **** is Suunto going to build a quality band for watches made for adults? This cheesy ass rubber-band that needs to be replaced every year and a half has doomed a fantastic piece of hardwear to the junk drawer.
BOOO SUUNTOOO! BOOOOOO!

Which band are you using?

Hey before I provide you with a list of alternatives, which strap are you currently using? Also can you provide some specifics as to what, or how the band is breaking?

Thumbs down

I've had an Observer for years and I'm now on my 4th strap (titanium). It doesn't matter if you buy the steel or the TT, it's the polymer within the strap that breaks. My last one lasted 13 months and broke last week. I'm tired of paying way too much money for these straps and so I contacted Suunto customer support directly and directed them to the multiple page thread on complaints about their straps. Their reply came 3 days later as a template response:
Quote:
Dear Sir/Madam,
thank you for contacting Suunto.
We are sorry if you have encountered issues with your Observer strap.

The strap for the Observer comes with a 1 year warranty, if you have purchased a strap for your Observer within the last year and it has a defect then please send your Observer to the service center for examination. Please visit the link below to fill out a service request:
Suunto - Repair - Service Request

If you did not purchase a strap for your Observer within the last year then unfortunately it is no longer under warranty, please contact your local retailer to enquire about purchasing a replacement.
It's obvious that they don't care about the strap issue since you're forced to buy their product because other replacement straps won't work. This is why their prices are so high.

I tossed my strapless Suunto into a drawer and have ordered a new watch from a different company. I'm done dealing with Suunto and their refusal to stand behind their products.

Good luck and if you buy an Observer then start saving money now for a replacement strap.
