Ti Observer construction/wear

Hi,

I am looking for a compass/altimeter combo that I could wear on a wrist. I am considering titanium Observer because it is not magnetic (and looks cool :). Somehow having a compass in a ferromagnetic body (steel) does not seem like a good idea to me... What if the body becomes magnetized?

Is titanium model all titanium, or does it have some steel parts? Push buttons on a product photo look much shinier than the body, I wonder if they are steel... Also, what about the strap clasp/hinge?

How does the titanium body finish wear down with time? Titanium is softer than steel, so it must scratch more easily... OTOH, it is matte from the start. If you had worn titanium Observer for a while, can you tell me how you like it?

Hi Andrei, I have a 3 year old (almost) Ti Observer.
Your observation is correct, the buttons are not Ti, Ithink they are just stainless. Everything else that is metal does seem to be Ti including the clasp etc.

The finish seems to wear fine, I wear mine everyday from climbing to the office and it still looks great!

IMO, the Ti looks much better. One of my climbing partners has the stainless version and on the wrist you can fel the weight difference, if that is a concern of yours.

Good luck with your choice (if you have not made it already)
