I tried the belt for swimming but got no heartbeat reading on the t4.

The suunto website says that the radio signal does not penetrate water.

As far as I know you need the HR-belt that stores the information in the belt, after your swimming you could download them to your pc.

I agree. Also if you are doing multi discipline stuff the memory belt is also great when playing 5-a-side etc where watches aren't allowed.

Your choice of software depends on which watch you are using.

T4 is best with Training Manager Lite, but this can't download from belt.

T6 is best with Training Manager which also does belt but this won't download from T4.

Firstbeat Athlete is excellent alternative to Training Manager, does exactly same connectivity as training manager but has built in coach facility that Training Manager doesn't.
