In general, Suunto or Polar? Hi guys, I am going to buy one of the two. I like the suunto much more (I am looking at T3). The Polar are fitness computers which u can wear for sport, but look plastickie and ugly for more everyday use. The T3 however does look more decent, and i could wear it other than only at times of exercise. I trust Suunto because I know in diving computers they are great, but my doubt is that all the fitness "pros" who I have talked to say "everyone uses Polar, that's for a reason". No actual rational defense for Polar, but I want to be sure before buying. So: 1) Is the suunto's HR information as reliable as Polar? 2) Can I customize the information about my personal profile for Kcal calculations to be accurate in the suunto as much as in the Polar? 3) Is there any other real difference between a T3 and a similar price Polar I should be aware of? thanks! markz

My wife uses a Polar RS200. I use a Polar strap at the gym and a Timex outdoors. The only thing the Suunto has over the RS200 is the "training effect," which you should get if you're following a good periodization schedule anyway. You never let a watch tell you how fit you are, you TT once a month or race. I keep waffling on getting a Suunto T4. I was all ready to hit the buy button when I read that the face is plastic.

I just purchased the suunto T4 and so far am very happy with it, I like you was however very concerned about the plastic face but I found this other product called the invisible shield that I can apply onto the Suunto that will keep it from being scratched for the rest of its life and will probably stay on there for the rest of its life, which is not bad for $10, the stuff actually is scratch proof, and wont come off with regular or even unregular wear and tear but you can remove it later if you choose and you cant even see it on the watch face. I hate making my first post on this forum a advertisement for another product but it really does the job.
