| I own a suunto T6C with a GPS Pod and have defacto ownership of the 405, via my wife. Which HRM is the best? Niether! Without entering into a long winded debate as to the in's and out's of each. Both have strong points, common ground is the software, both units lack well developed software. The upside for the suunto is user changable batteries and TE/EPOC which give direct feedback in relation to the intensity of the workout. The Garmin competes on size and variety of functions, the Virtual Training partner or VP is standout. VP allows the user to compete against the Garmin unit in race enviroment. Therefore assuring quality of session. However I'm still of the view that all HRM's are nothing more than training aids, therefore will never replace a quality training program. I've been a runner all my life, at 41 years still run. I competed 2:30hrs marathons, run 32min 10k's all done before Suunto Garmin and Polars were invented. The most inspiring and effective training tool available to any person is their "ticker" improving run times requires effort and a plan. The bottomline is if you want to improve you must train daily with high level of intensity at least 2 days a week averaging approximately 60-80km a week. Mix up the training with tempo runs, long slow distance and importantly rest and quality diet. Don't worry too much about the HRM, focus on the training plan, there are heaps of forums on the web that offer free training plans and advice. In closing go the Suunto they are excellent HRM's. Good luck, AG47 |
