| Here's some info! ------------- PRESS RELEASE February 1, 2004 SUUNTO ENTERS THE MARKET FOR THE HEALTH AND FITNESS CONSCIOUS The new Suunto t6 - a personal training tool to optimize training results Both progressive overload and successful recovery are needed when training to improve one's condition. Suunto t6 makes the latest scientific research in exercise physiology available for every athlete and fitness enthusiast to use. For the first time training load and personal training effect of a session can be measured, making it possible to optimise aerobic training. Suunto t6 provides the fitness enthusiast with innovative heart rate functions such as real time average heart rate and other relevant information allowing the user to control the exercise intensity for optimal training effect. During the workout, the device records every single heart beat of the athlete, enabling further analysis of the body functions including EPOC*. After the workout, this data can easily be transferred to a PC that immediately gives a personal analysis on the progress. No EPOC*, no gain Ð know-how for an optimal training plan Suunto t6 introduces a numeric value for training load, EPOC. Measuring EPOC makes different sports and training sessions comparable, which helps in making an optimal training plan. With Suunto t6, athletes in teams, clubs or individually, can assess their fitness level, define the correct training load and measure the gain of each session. Suunto t6 utilizes the results of physiological research conducted by Finnish KIHU Ð Research Institute for Olympic Sports, in cooperation with Firstbeat Technologies. This scientific knowledge enables Suunto t6 to offer users parameters from every training session that were previously measurable only in laboratory tests. Easy self-analysis for real-time follow-up The easy-to-use PC analysis combines the training data with background information on the athlete. The analysis calculates seven different physiological parameters to make sure that the athlete trains neither too hard nor too easy. These parameters include EPOC, oxygen consumption and energy consumption which can be accurately measured from rest to maximum heart rate for the first time on the field. The measurements are based on the heart rate variation of the recorded beat-to-beat data. The possibility to exchange training information over e-mail or a web service opens up new doors for remote coaching and sharing experiences between friends. Suunto t6 combines a wristop unit and heart rate transmitter belt with PC software. Its main functions are heart rate monitor with 128 kB training memory, watch, stopwatch, timer, altimeter and barometer. *) EPOC, Excess Post-exercise Oxygen Consumption, is a numeric value of oxygen deficit describing fatigue accumulation, used for accurate evaluation of the training load of each training session

| more details on t6 looks very promising software training planner and calender usb connection :-) alitude and barometer digital transmission of hr signal - coded :-)) range 10 meters (who has got such a long arm ? - but maybe you can detect your hr online while you are sleeping?) upgradable with wireless accessoires (I wonder what that means - speed sensor for biking like polar ?, ultrasound sensor RDS like in cyclosport products ?, wireless local area network gps like in the at the moment problematic timex system ?) one thing i really would like to know, gabriel, is availabilty - this seems to be a real winner - polar beware! greetings markus |

| Well, we're looking at mid-April at the soonest for the X9, and it looks like that will probably be coming out before the t6, if that's any help at all. Price on the t6 will likely be in the "nearly $500" range, but nothing is certain at this point, so don't hold me to it.

| T6 availability Gabriel as far as I have heard the T6 will hit the European shelves in late May, early June 2004. Price € 449 OVP wireless accessoires: nothing concrete, but an interesting link Read this: http://www.dynastream.com/news/view/20/ The new T6 from Suunto will probably include the possibility of speed and distance measurement with wireless inertial technology like the nike speedmax system and the new Polar S625X with its S1 speed pod - both products from dynastream, too. I wonder if there also will be a wireless bike speed and cadence sensor..... Exciting product - let´s wait and see till early summer 2004..... greetings markus |
